Hey there readers! My name is Nicole Ryan and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist based in Cleveland, OH. I am so excited to have joined the clinical team at Ebb & Flow Counseling! You may be asking yourself, what is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)? Is it similar to a Health Coach? Nutritionist? Holistic Nutritionist? RDNs are the food and nutrition experts who have met the following criteria to earn the RDN credential:

  1. Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited collegiate dietetics program.
  2. Completed a supervised practice (internship) with a minimum of 1,200 hours of hands-on experience.
  3. Passed the national dietetic registration exam.
  4. Became licensed in their state (if applicable).
  5. Maintains 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years.

As a best practice, it is encouraged to seek help from accredited and licensed RDNs if and when you are interested in receiving nutrition related advice and services. RDNs will partner with you to create a safe, realistic and individualized plan that is sustainable for the long haul.

Here are a few suggested reasons in which a consult with a RDN may be desired:

  • Enriching Care and Treatment of Mental Health Concerns such as Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, etc.
  • Management of Diabetes, High Blood Pressure or Other Chronic Diseases
  • Gastric Bypass Surgery
  • Digestive Problems or Concerns
  • Pregnancy, Trying to Get Pregnant, or a New Mom
  • The Presence of an Eating Disorder or Disordered Eating Pattern
  • Concerns with Weight Gain or Loss
  • Wanting Practical Lifestyle Advice
  • Education About Nutritious Cooking.
  • Food Allergy Management
  •  Seeking Self Empowerment Over Personal Health
  • And More!
